The murder of Darylyn Meredith Ugle - Perth, West Australia - March 26, 2003

In 2003, 25-year-old Darylyn Meredith Ugle from Highgate, Perth, disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Her body was found several weeks later, in bushland, approximately 24 miles (39 kilometers) east of Perth. It quickly became clear that she was the victim of a homicide.
Darylyn, who was born on June 2, 1977, grew up in a loving family and was known for her big heart and ability to see the best in everyone. Despite facing her own challenges, she was always there to help those who were lost or struggling. Those who knew her remember Darylyn as someone who had a fierce love for her family and friends.
On the evening of Tuesday, March 25, 2003, around 8:00 pm, Darylyn Ugle was last seen on Stirling Street in Northbridge, an inner-city suburb of the City of Perth where she worked as a sex worker. Her disappearance was out of character and immediately raised concerns among her loved ones.
Nobody knew Darylyn’s whereabouts until her remains were found in remote bushland near Mundaring Weir, on 21 April 2003, not far from Chidlow. This location is significant for police, as it was close to the home of Donald Victor Morey, a man with a history of violence against women—particularly sex workers. Morey had previously been convicted of the attempted murder of another woman in a nearby area. Both Darylyn and the survivor of Morey’s attack were part of the same vulnerable community, and the similarities in their cases led police to suspect his involvement. Morey, however, has denied any involvement in Darylyn’s death, and no one has been charged.
It is believed that Darylyn’s death occurred on or around the day she was last seen, making details about her movements that evening and night crucial.
Authorities continue to hope that new evidence or witness testimony will eventually bring justice for Darylyn and provide her family with answers about what happened in her final hours.
